MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee volleyball evened their record to 6-6 with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-15, 30-16) win over Appalachian State (2-8) in opening action of the MT Invitational in Alumni Memorial Gym Friday.
Errors played a key factor in the match as Appalachian State committed 29 miscues in contrast to the Lady Raider's 10. Middle Tennessee also recorded a season high .344 attack percentage and recorded 42 kills in the match with the Mountaineers only garnering 22.
Juniors KeKe Deckard and Dara McLean each recorded 11 kills in the match. Deckard also led the team in digs with nine.
Junior setter Goldie Bilyeu saw action for the first time this season and notched 15 assists. Freshman Megan Sumrell led the team with 19 assists.
The Lady Raiders held Appalachian State in check as none of their players recorded double figure kills and four had negative attack percentages. Overall the Mountaineers had a negative .075 attack percentage.
Middle Tennessee continues action in the MT Invitational on Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. match-up with Western Illinois. Action begins at 10 a.m. in Alumni Memorial Gym and continues all day.
