Frank Faulkinberry

A graduate of the University of the South, Frank Faulkinberry played on the great Sewanee teams of the early 1900s and still holds a place at tackle on the all-time Sewanee team. He came to MT as a Latin professor and head football and basketball coach in 1926. He coached the women's basketball team that won a national championship in 1929. He also posted a 32-24-4 record in football and a 48-38 mark in seven seasons of basketball.
Prior to joining MT, Faulkinberry had been a high school coach and he is credited as being one of the founders of the Secondary School Athletic Association. His leadership helped guide MT to membership in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Faulkinberry Drive, a street on the MT campus near Murphy Center, is named in his honor.
