Kessler Career-High Eight Strikeouts
The Blue Raiders jumped out front with six runs in the first three innings, highlighted by Michael Adkins' three-run homer in the first.
With four RBIs, Adkins (2-for-5) tied his personal best output for the second consecutive game and is off to a torrid start, hitting .556 with two homers, two doubles and eight RBIs from the cleanup spot in two games.
In his first weekend start, Kooper Kessler turned in the longest outing of his career (5.2 innings) with a career-high eight strikeouts. Kessler only allowed four hits as the Dolphins' only run came off a solo shot in the second.
The Dolphins (0-2) fought back into it with a four-run seventh inning and brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Nathan Foriest (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 K) shut the door for his first save of the year.
Austin Bryant, Dustin Delgado and Ronnie Jebavy each collected two hits on the afternoon. Bryant's fourth-inning single extended his hitting streak to seven, and Jebavy swiped two bags on the base paths.
MT totaled 12 hits on the day as Brad Jarreau (1-for-4), Jared Allen (1-for-5) and Kevin Dupree each contributed an RBI as well.
Delgado led off the game with a double on a deep drive to center. His aggressive base running gave MT runners on the corners after taking off for third on a Bryant grounder to the shortstop. Adkins connected on his opposite-field long ball two batters later.
Jacksonville's Josh Baker (0-1) gave up three earned runs and six total, tagging him with the loss after 2.1 innings of work.
The Blue Raiders stranded eight runners, while MT pitchers left 10 Dolphins on base. Three errors on defense also cost the Dolphins.
Middle Tennessee goes for the sweep in the series finale Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET/Noon CT.
