Raiders ready for Commodore Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After opening 2016 at the Ed Temple Classic on the campus of Tennessee State last weekend, the Middle Tennessee track & field teams return to Nashville for the Commodore Invitational Jan. 15-16.

Conference USA Honors
Three Blue Raiders earned Conference USA weekly honors after their performances at the Ed Temple Classic. Jacob Patten (C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Week), Pershawna Williams (C-USA Field Female Athlete of the Week) and Josphine Kiptebeny (C-USA Female Track Athlete of the Week), all earned the honor for the first time.
Setting a New Standard
Pershawna Williams, a senior from Pensacola, Florida, jumped a career-best 12.74 meters (41-9.75) at the Ed Temple Classic, finishing second. Fellow senior India Hammond was close behind Williams, placing third after going 12.71 meters (41-8.5). The duo are ranked second and third in the NCAA.
SWAG Male Athlete of the Year
As announced by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, Middle Tennessee javelin thrower John Ampomah was named the 2015 SWAG Male Athlete of the Year. The Accra, Ghana native earned the award after breaking his own national javelin record with his 82.94-meter throw (272-1) at the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo-Brazzaville.
