Raiders trek to Birmingham

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the first time in the 2015-16 indoor track & field season, Middle Tennessee will venture outside the state of Tennessee as the Blue Raiders are scheduled to compete in the Emory Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama.

Last Time Out
On the final day of the two-day competition at the Commodore Invitational, the Blue Raider track & field teams finished with two first-place finishes and six finishers in the top five. Eliud Rutto and Vincent Okot each claimed first. Rutto raced in the 800-meter, finishing in 1:49.12. Okot bounded 15.85 meters in the triple jump
Conference USA Honor
Rutto's first place finish in the 800 meter helped net the junior from Eldoret, Kenya Conference USA Male Track Athlete of the Week. His 1:49.12 time ranked second in the NCAA and first in Conference USA going into this weekend's competitions. Rutto also aided the 4x400-meter relay team to a sixth-place finish.

In Conference USA, eight Blue Raiders are at the top of the performance charts in their respective events. In the 800 meter and 5,000 meter, Middle Tennessee holds the top spot in both the men's and women's event. MT is also well represented in the jumps, holding the top spot in the women's high jump (Barbara Vilson, 1.79m), women's long jump (India Hammond, 6.03m) and the men's triple jump (Vincent Okot, 16.08m).
