Jarreau named first-team all-conference
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Blue Raider senior pitcher Nate Hoffmann and junior outfielder Brad Jarreau have been named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Conference USA team.
Hoffmann (6-foot, 192 pounds) was named Pitcher of the Year in the Preseason Conference USA poll, as well as first-team starting pitcher. Jarreau was named to one of the three first-team outfield spots.
"Those two players had a great year for us last year and they were a big part of our team success," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Jim McGuire said. "Preseason awards are generally based on what you did the previous year and projections of what you will do this coming season. (Hoffmann and Jarreau) earned a great deal of respect for their accomplishments last year, and they have worked hard during the offseason to be in position to help the team this year. We will be counting on them, as well as others, heavily."
Hoffmann is projected as Middle Tennessee's ace in 2016 after a magnificent breakthrough campaign in 2015 when he earned a spot on the All-Conference USA second team. Hoffman posted a 4-1 record with a 3.61 earned run average. The righty was among C-USA leaders for opposing batting average (.240). He appeared in 15 games, earning 13 starts. The Blue Raiders were 11-2 in his 13 starts, including a 9-1 mark in C-USA games.
Hoffmann proved to be a stopper for the Blue Raiders with Saturday wins after Friday losses in four games (at Florida Atlantic, at Rice, at UTSA and Louisiana Tech). Additionally, he led the Blue Raiders to a win in the C-USA Championships after they had lost in the first round of the double-elimination event. He had six quality starts after beginning the 2015 season in the Middle Tennessee bullpen.
"Hoffman really, really stepped up for us as a junior transfer," McGuire said. "We are expecting even bigger things from him in 2016. He kept us in every game he pitched. I believe his teammates believe in him and have great confidence in our chances when he is on the mound."

"(Hoffmann) has really, really stepped up," McGuire said. "To be a guy that started out in the bullpen the first weekend and, after a couple of weeks, end up being our Saturday starter the rest of the season says a lot. He has kept us in every game he has pitched. He has done an outstanding job for our team."
Jarreau also had a stellar 2015 campaign. The right fielder started all 59 games and his .338 batting average was second on the squad. He produced 12 extra-base hits but, more importantly, he was strong in the clutch.
Jarreau hit .417 with runners in scoring position and was 15-for-15 with runners on third and less than two outs. He had a .651 success rate advancing runners. As a sophomore, Jarreau was fifth in the league in batting average (.338) and fourth in hits (81). Jarreau had 22 multi-hit games, including a team-best three four-hit games.
