McCorvey part of two Grey Cup champions
MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee Head Coach Rick Stockstill announced on Monday the hiring of Kez McCorvey as the programs wide receivers coach. McCorvey, a two-time Grey Cup champion, replaces Kodi Burns.
McCorvey's hiring is pending full approval of the Tennessee Board of Regents.
"I am super excited about joining Rick Stockstill's staff," said McCorvey. "I am looking forward to great things and can't wait to get started."
McCorvey comes to Murfreesboro after coaching receivers the previous two years for the Edmonton Eskimos where he helped lead them to the 2015 Grey Cup title. He tutored two 1,000-yard receivers during the 2015 campaign in Adarius Bowman and Derel Walker who finished No. 1 and 2 in the league in receptions. Walker was also crowned the league's Rookie of the Year.
"Kez brings great experience as a player and coach and we are fortunate to add him to our staff," said Stockstill. "He is a great teacher of fundamentals and will help our receivers continue to improve at a high level."
In 2013, McCorvey was the head coach at Northeast High School in Oakland Park, FL after spending two years as an assistant with the Toronto Argonauts. With the Argonauts, McCorvey developed three 1,000-yard receivers, a league MVP, and sent Dontrelle Inman on to play for the San Diego Chargers. Toronto also won the 2012 Grey Cup.
McCorvey joined Bethel University (McKenzie, TN) in 2011 as the wide receivers coach, strength coach and passing game coordinator. During his tenure, the Wildcats won the conference title for the first time since 2006 and ranked third nationally in receiving yards per attempt.
In 2009, McCorvey received his first head coaching position at Maclay High School in Tallahassee, FL, where he developed Seth Roberts who went on to play for the Oakland Raiders.
Finding a love for player development, McCorvey was part of a group who started Titus Sports Academy in 2002. Titus is a strength and speed development company for young athletes. During the span of seven years he had a hand in developing many great athletes including Antonio Cromartie and Ernie Sims. His work was honored by an appointment of service on the Governor's board for physical fitness for the state of Florida.
McCorvey was a four-year starter at receiver for Florida State from 1990 to 1994. The Seminoles won five consecutive bowl games, had three undefeated ACC championships, and won the national title in 1993. He earned all-conference honors in 1992 and 1993, while also adding all-American honors in 1993. In 2005, he was inducted into the FSU Football Hall of Fame.
After graduating in 1995 with a sociology degree, McCorvey was drafted in the fifth round by the Detroit Lions where he played three seasons. He also later played with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe in 1999 and with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2000 and 2001. As a member of the Eskimos, he was named a CFLPA All-Star in 2000, tied the team record for most touchdowns in a single game with four and tied Milt Stegall for most touchdowns during the 2000 season with 15.
McCorvey, and his wife Loris, have four children: Imoni, Kez, Jr, Micah and Cristian.
