MT completes first day at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On the first day of the Vanderbilt Invitational, the Blue Raider track & field teams rallied behind the jumps.
Jacob Patten, the reigning Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week, finished third in the high jump, clearing 2.08 meters (6-9.75). Phillip Smith also competed in the high jump, finishing fifth after clearing 2.04 meters (6-8.25).
In the long jump, Atsu Nyamadi claimed the top finish for the Blue Raiders, placing eighth after bounding 7.29 meters (23.11). Teammates Vincent Okot and Smith finish 14th (6.93m/22-9) and 16th (6.78m/22-3), respectively.
India Hammond tallied the highest finish of the day for the Middle Tennessee women, finishing fourth in the long jump (6.13m/20-1.5).
Finishing seventh in the long jump was Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad, who jumped 6.02 meters (19-9), while Pershawna Williams placed 10th with her bound of 5.88 meters (19-3.5).
Williams also added a sixth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.66 meters (5-5.25).
Middle Tennessee continues competition tomorrow at the Vanderbilt Invitational.
