Tipoff is 5 PM at Murphy Center
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee and rival WKU will renew their rivalry when the two teams collide in front of a national television audience on FOX Sports at Murphy Center Saturday at 5 p.m.
The Blue Raiders (12-7, 6-2) will be looking to remain in the thick of the C-USA championship hunt as the league race reaches the halfway point. Middle Tennessee will be seeking a season-high, four-game win streak.
WKU (17-2, 8-0) is tied atop the C-USA standings with UTEP, and the Lady Hilltoppers have won 14 straight. They are receiving votes in the ESPN USA Today Coaches Poll.
Middle Tennessee is 5-1 in its last six games and it has been a strong defensive unit during this stretch. The Blue Raiders will have to continue their impressive defensive work against a WKU squad averaging 70.9 points per game.
The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series, 32-24, including a 17-4 mark against the Hilltoppers under Head Coach Rick Insell. Middle Tennessee had won 12 straight in the series before losing, 63-60, in Bowling Green last season. Middle Tennessee is 9-0 against WKU at Murphy Center under Insell, and the Blue Raiders have never lost consecutive games to the Hilltoppers with Insell as their head coach.
Middle Tennessee is led by the guard tandem of senior Brea Edwards and junior Ty Petty, along with freshman standout Alex Johnson. Sophomores Abbey Sissom and Gabby Lyon have also sparked the Blue Raiders, who are 5-1 with these five players starting.
Rebecca Reuter and TiAnna Porter have provided strong post play off of the bench, and reliable senior guard Caroline Warden is coming off of her best game of the season against Marshall.
