The Blue Raiders go up against Rice on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and then return to Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium for Senior Day against UTEP on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Rice and Middle have faced off just twice in the history of the programs with both games occurring last season, once in conference play and once during the conference tournament. The teams battled to a scoreless draw their first meeting in Houston. The second match-up was in the first round of the conference tournament when the Blue Raiders came out on top, 1-0, to knock the Owls out of title contention.
UTEP and MT have also met just twice in the history of the programs, once in 2014 and once in 2015. Both games went into overtime with the Miners winning the first meeting 1-0 and the Blue Raiders coming away victorious in the second match, 2-1. Courteney Gibson assisted on both goals for Middle in last season's win.
Middle Tennessee (4-8-1) comes into the weekend after splitting two games at WKU and Marshall. The Blue Raiders fell to league-leading WKU 1-0 but bounced back for a 2-0 win at Marshall. After a scoreless first half, Angie Lai put one away for MT and followed it up a few minutes later by assisting on Salera Jordan's goal.
Jordan continues to lead the team in goals with six and has 45 shots on the year. Abbie Brown has four goals for the Blue Raiders to go with two assists. Courteney Gibson leads the team in assists with four.
The Blue Raider defense allowed just one goal on the weekend and picked up a clean sheet against Marshall, the second of the year for MT. Celeste Barnard started both games in goal for MT while earning her first career victory and shutout on Sunday. She recorded 10 saves between the two matches.
Rice enters the match following two wins on the road last weekend. The Owls bested UTSA and UTEP by scores of 3-2 and 3-0, respectively. Nia Stallings had a goal in each outing to earn herself a C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Stallings, along with Aliza Wolfe and Darcy Mickalow lead the team in goals with three apiece. Stallings also leads the team in assists with five and shots with 26. Eleven other Owls have recorded at least one goal on the season.
On defense, Rice has earned two Defensive Player of the Week honors in Mary Claire Danilevics and Jenny Fichera. Both players have anchored the backline and showed offensive prowess recording three goals and four assists between the two of them.
In goal for the Owls is Samantha Colley. She has a 7-3-1 record with three shutouts. Colley has recorded 51 saves on the season for a 1.07 goals against average.
UTEP comes to the contest following two shutout losses last week. The Miners fell to North Texas, 1-0, and Rice, 3-0. Prior to the losses, UTEP had only lost twice, falling to Stephen F. Austin and C-USA foe UAB.
