MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Famed college basketball analyst Dick Vitale is set to join the Blue Raiders as a special guest at Murphy Madness on Oct. 27 to celebrate the beginning of another season of Middle Tennessee men's and women's basketball.
The third annual Murphy Madness event is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be preceded by trick-or-treating in the Greenland Drive Parking Lot starting at 4:00 p.m. and inside on the Murphy Center concourse at 5:00 p.m.
Blue Raider fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2016-17 Blue Raiders and Lady Raiders in full uniform as the teams and coaches will be introduced to kick the evening off.
In honor of Vitale's appearance in Murfreesboro, a "Dickie V" impersonation contest will be held leading up to and at Murphy Madness. The top three (3) submissions via social media will be asked to do their live impersonation during Murphy Madness where Dick Vitale will determine the winner. Whoever does the best impersonation will win a $250 gift card to Textbook Brokers.
To participate, fans should post a video impersonation of 45 seconds or less to one of MT Athletics social media platforms by tagging Blue Raider Athletics on FaceBook, @MTAthletics on Twitter or @mtathletics on Instagram.
Following the impersonation contest, players from both men's and women's teams will put on a special show at the event with each team performing a choreographed dance.
The Blue Raiders will show off their basketball skills with a 3-point competition featuring the top long range shooters from the men's and women's squads before one lucky fan will be selected to take a half-court shot for a chance to win a new vehicle courtesy of Ford of Murfreesboro.
Select students will then get an opportunity to take the court and show off their own skills to the Blue Raider hoop stars with a shooting competition of their own on the Murphy Center floor.
Men's basketball's high flyers will take the court next to perform their most creative throwdowns in the slam dunk contest.
Both the men's and women's teams will conclude the event with an autograph session for fans.
