Morillo Remains Undefeated in Fall

Blue Raiders conclude Dick LaLance Showdown
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Through two fall events, Middle Tennessee sophomore Luis Morillo Diaz is 6-0 in singles action, as he swept the Dick LaLance Showdown at the Adams Tennis Complex this weekend.
In their match against Belmont on Friday, the Blue Raiders earned a clean sweep of the Bruins, which started with Morillo and partner Nicolas Buitrago Machado winning 8-6 in doubles. Morillo dominated Belmont's Stephen Goldman, 6-1, 6-2, in singles, followed by Buitrago, who took a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Michael Apple completed the sweep by coming from behind to win by a score of 4-6, 6-1, 10-5.
Memphis, ranked No. 40 in the country by the International Tennis Association (ITA) at the conclusion of the spring 2016 season, faced off with MT on Saturday. The Tigers got off to a strong start by defeating Morillo and Buitrago in doubles in a tiebreak.
Turner Voges and Jan Pallares Monreal took singles wins for Memphis, but Morillo cruised through his second and third sets to keep his singles win streak alive. His score was 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Lipscomb earned a victory in doubles to start off the final day of the Dick LaLance Showdown by a score of 8-5. After Apple and Buitrago cruised to straight set wins in singles, Morillo finished off his opponent in the third set to improve to a perfect 6-0 in fall singles play.
Several other Blue Raiders are still competing in the ITA All-Americans in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
