Middle Tennessee set to host Southern Miss

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Following a tough 3-2 setback against in-state foe Austin Peay Wednesday, the Blue Raiders return to conference play Friday night when they host Southern Miss.
First serve from Alumni Memorial Gym is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on Conference USA's streaming site, CUSA.tv. Live stats will also be available to fans at sidearmstats.com/mt/wvball/
The Blue Raiders (5-18, 2-6) hold a 3-2 edge in the all-time series against Southern Miss, including a 3-0 ledger in Murfreesboro.
Three Blue Raiders tallied double-digit kills against the Governors on Wednesday night. Regan Coughlin tallied a match-high 16 kills to go along with 16 digs for her seventh double-double of the year.
Makila York recorded a season-high 13 kills, while Vonnie Covington finished the night with 11 kills and hit at a .611 clip.
Jacqueline Lux recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 47 assists and 11 digs. The junior sits just four digs away from a career-1,000.
Southern Miss (15-6, 4-2) leads the league offensively, averaging 14 assists per set and 15 kills per set in conference matches this season. The Golden Eagles are led by Stephany Purdue with 283 kills. Purdue's 3.93 kills per set average also ranks third in C-USA.
Defensively, USM also sits atop the C-USA standings in hitting percentage allowed (.176) and kills allowed per set (10.95).
Following Friday's action, the Raiders will remain at home to close the weekend against UAB. Sunday's first serve against the Blazers is set for a 1 p.m. start.
