Hoot bags late goal for Blue Raiders
RUSTON, La. – Middle Tennessee was unable to get a much-needed win at LA Tech Friday night, battling the Bulldogs closely in a 2-1 loss despite playing a man down for much of the second half.
LA Tech jumped out to an early lead on the Blue Raiders, slotting home a penalty kick in the third minute and continued to threaten with a couple more shots in the 10 minutes following.
Salera Jordan logged the first shot of the night for the Blue Raiders, forcing Bulldog keeper Kylee Seto into action in the 18th minute.
Kerri Cook joined in the offensive attack for MT in the 28th minute, placing a shot off the post before having a shot on target five minutes later that was followed shortly after by a shot on frame off the foot of Amber Hoot.
LA Tech had an opportunity to double its lead on a second penalty kick attempt early in the second half, but it was thwarted by freshman keeper Sydney Chalcraft.
Middle Tennessee, however, would play the remainder of the game down a player after a red card was issued to defender Hannah Tkacz upon awarding the penalty to LA Tech.
The Raiders didn't go quietly, having shots by Cook and Hoot find the target in the 60th and 64th minutes, respectively, but neither were able to provide a breakthrough for Middle.
Just a few minutes later, LA Tech was able to find a second to put the Raiders down a pair as Bulldog Haley Laque bagged her second goal of the contest in the 68th minute.
Middle had a few more chances late in the contest and capitalized on one in the final minute when Hoot slotted home a goal from 18 yards out on a cross by Casey Riemer, but were unable to overcome the two-goal deficit while playing down a player.
The Blue Raiders conclude the regular season Sunday as they take on Southern Miss at 1:00 p.m. in Hattiesburg, Miss.
