Round 1 Results
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – An opening round of 30-over 318 has Middle Tennessee in the middle of the pack through 18 holes at the Cardinal Cup.
The Blue Raiders sit in 10th place in the field of 17 teams and are 17 strokes behind leader tournament Florida State (+13).
"We started out a little bit slow today but we just couldn't get any putts to fall," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We're facing some fast greens again and have got to become better lag putters."
Maryland is just ahead of the Raiders in ninth at 27-over par while Minnesota and Columbia trail MT in a tie for 11th place at 31-over.
Sophomore Jenna Burris led the Raiders on day one, finishing the first 18 holes at 5-over par (77) and tied for 18th.
Hanley Long carded a 7-over 79 in the first round to land in a tie for 39th and is one stroke ahead of teammate Samantha Gotcher who is tied for 44th at 8-over (80).
Lacie York shot an opening round 10-over 82 while freshman Katherine Holmes is three strokes back of York at 13-over (85).
"The scores were pretty good all around, but we have two days to come out and improve so we can move up the leaderboard," Adams added.
The Blue Raiders rank sixth in the field in Par 5 scoring, going 4-over par in round one on the par 5 holes while Burris is among the Top 10 in the field in Par 3 scoring at even par.
Middle Tennessee will begin second round play Monday morning with Holmes leading things off at 11:30 a.m. She will be followed by York, Gotcher, Long and Burris in nine minute intervals.
The Blue Raiders will play alongside Minnesota and Columbia on day two and live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com.
