GoBlueRaiders.com will be conducting a Q&A with a different women's basketball player each week. This week's feature is sophomore Jess Louro, the daughter of Jim and Judy Louro. Jess is from Wall, N.J.
GBR.com: How did you get into playing basketball?
JL: I think I was 10 or 11. It was one of those sports I just wanted to try, and immediately fell in love with it and didn't want to stop. I've been playing ever since.
GBR.com: What was your recruiting process like and what was behind your decision to come to Middle Tennessee?
JL: I wanted to wait until I got down here for a visit to make my decision. Once I got here, just the whole atmosphere surrounding the team and the coaching staff made me feel like it would be a second home here. Plus, I have two brothers who go to school two-and-a-half hours away at Life University. That definitely helped my decision, knowing that I would have family close whenever I needed to go see them.
GBR.com: What's the biggest difference between your hometown and Murfreesboro?
JL: It's a similar town, kind of that suburban feel. Here, everyone is all about basketball, which is similar with my high school too. We had a lot of community support. Here, it's just magnified. I had never imagined it would be like this, but it's awesome.
GBR.com: After your freshman season, what do you think will be the biggest transition for you heading into your sophomore year?
JL: Now it's really time to step up as a player and help my team. I didn't really get a lot of experience last year so I need to quickly gain it and try and help my team however I can.
GBR.com: What are some of the things you are working on defensively?
JL: Staying in a low position in sliding. Usually I'll stop and start running, so just staying focused and disciplined to keeping my feet sliding the whole time.
GBR.com: How did you enjoy Costa Rica?
JL: It was a lot of fun. It was great to get that experience down there. It was worth it.
GBR.com: Who is the best dancer on the team?
JL: Kyla Allison. Kyla is a very good dancer, and Gabby too. She's smooth.
GBR.com: Who is the funniest person on the team?
JL: That's hard, everyone is pretty funny. I think Ty Petty is pretty funny.
GBR.com: What is your favorite phone app?
JL: Candy Crush, got to love it. Whenever I'm bored I just click on it. It can get addicting.
GBR.com: Who is your celebrity crush?
JL: Tom Hardy, love him. This Means War is probably my favorite movie with him.
GBR.com: What is your favorite memory as a Blue Raider?
JL: To win conference was awesome. As a freshman, just getting to experience that the first year of college is like no other feeling. We want to keep that going.
GBR.com: What do you think the team needs to do to keep that going?
JL: We just need to stay focused in practice and stay disciplined with all the little things. I think we are going to gel well, and learn and grow as a team as the season goes on.
