MT concludes fall with weekend event in Atlanta
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team will conclude the fall season this weekend when they compete in the Georgia State Hidden Dual in Atlanta.
Furman and Oregon will join the Blue Raiders and host team Georgia State this weekend in a hidden dual format. The Panthers concluded the 2016 spring season with an ITA ranking of No. 48, while Oregon checked in at No. 58. The scoring will include six-game sets for doubles with a tiebreaker at six-all and no-ad scoring. Singles will be best two out of three sets with no-ad scoring as well.
"Our expectations for this last fall tournament will be to see a sense of urgency from our student-athletes," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said. "We've got an offseason coming up, so I hope we can enjoy this final tournament. We want to see our girls compete and play well this weekend."
All eight student-athletes on the MT roster will compete this weekend, including Costanza Magazzini, who currently leads the Blue Raiders in singles wins with a record of 8-3 this fall. Magazzini notched a first round victory over Ball State's Audrey Berger in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional last weekend at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Alory Pereira is next on the squad with seven triumphs this fall. The senior earned wins over opponents from Ole Miss and Auburn at the June Stewart Invitational to win her flight. Maria Josefina Zehnder and Marta Peris Herrero will both travel to Atlanta with six fall wins so far. Zehnder is currently on a five-match win streak, as she won Flight B Singles at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional.
Sarah Sediri, Luisa Zirilli, Lidia Burrows and Holly Horsfall all enter the Georgia State Hidden Dual with three singles victories. Burrows will be competing in her second event of the fall, as she won twice in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Qualifying Singles tournament to earn a spot in the Main Draw.
