Softball picks up a weekend win at Motlow State

MANCHESTER, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee softball team took to the road for a game against Motlow State at Coffee County High School last Saturday, Oct. 1. Despite being away, the Blue Raiders were the home team and earned a 9-3 victory.
The game was tight through the first five innings of action but was broken open in the bottom of sixth following a two-run home run from Austyn Whaley and a triple that scored two runs from Deja Portillo.
Whaley also hit a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth. In the 2015 spring season, Whaley recorded six home runs.
Summer Burgess earned four hits in the game including a double and an RBI while Kaylyn Slatter recorded three hits and an RBI.
Cori Jennings started in the circle for Middle, picking up two strikeouts in three innings of work. Gretchen Greer and Sarah Pinkston also pitched for the Blue Raiders and earned two strikeouts each. Pattie Ruth Taylor saw time in the circle in the contest as well.
The Blue Raiders return to the road for a doubleheader at Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 8. The first game will begin at 1:30pm. Then MT returns to the Blue Raider Softball Field to host Cleveland State at noon on Sunday, Oct. 16.
