Midweek tilt kick starts three-match road trip
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the third time this season, Middle Tennessee will face an in-state foe when it travels to Nashville to take on the Tennessee State Tigers Wednesday night.
The midweek tilt is slated for a 6 p.m. start from Kean Hall.
The Blue Raiders hold a 34-1 advantage in the all-time series, including victories in the last 27 meetings. Tennessee State's lone win in the series was a 3-2 decision in 1989 at the Western Kentucky Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky.
The Blue Raiders are seeking to bounce back after dropping a pair of matches against Rice and WKU last weekend. Freshman Dora Peonia tallied a combined 15 kills against the Owls and Hilltoppers, while sophomore Regan Coughlin added 14 kills.
Junior Jacqueline Lux sits seventh in Conference USA with 8.21 assists per set and has dished out 476 assists this season. After making the transition to setter from libero in the offseason, her 941 digs also put her 59 digs away from the 1,000 career digs mark.
Offensively, the Tigers (9-9, 2-2) are led by Chloe Watson with 223 kills and averages 3.43 kills per set. Julia Pierson and Katora Roberts have also tallied 154 and 119 kills, respectively, for the Tiger attack.
Pierson leads the defensive stance with 36 of the squad's 85 total blocks, while Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus has totaled 295 digs on the year for a 4.54 digs-per-set average.
Following Wednesday's match, the Blue Raiders remain on the road as they return to conference play at LA Tech Friday and FAU Sunday.
