MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After getting five national letters of intent in on the opening two days of the NCAA early signing period, Middle Tennessee Head Coach Kermit Davis and the Blue Raider men's basketball team turns their full attention to the 2016-17 regular season, which opens Friday against Milligan at 11:00 a.m. in the Murphy Center.
The game will serve as Rutherford County School Day, will include Veterans Day recognition and is a great opportunity for Blue Raider fans to take a long lunch from work to come see the first game of the Division I college basketball season.
Middle Tennessee had an impressive showing in its lone exhibition last Thursday, defeating the North Alabama Lions 96-65. The Blue Raiders hit 30-of-61 (.492) attempts from the field while holding UNA to just 21-of-58 (.362).
MT also dominated the Lions on the boards, holding a rebounding edge of 56-23 on the night.
Giddy Potts led the Raiders offensively with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from behind the arc, while JaCorey Williams added 14 points and Reggie Upshaw had 13. Potts and Brandon Walters tied for a game-high eight rebounds in the contest.
Milligan enters the contest with a 2-2 record and coming off of a devastating 100-99 loss Tuesday against Warren Wilson.
Sophomore guard Tyler Nichols tallied 24 points in his last outing to bring his team-high season average to 16.3 per game.
Sophomore forward Will Buckner leads the Buffaloes in rebounds (7.8) and blocks (1.8) and is second in scoring (14.3).
