As the Thanksgiving holiday rolls around, there is plenty to be thankful for around Middle Tennessee.
From players to coaches and administrative members, here is what some around the athletics department are thankful for this holiday season.
Larry Maples, assistant athletic director of equipment operations: I'm thankful for my family, my biological family as well as my MT football family, and being able to come do a job I enjoy on a day-to-day basis. I'm thankful for my wife and everything we've laid out so far, and for my family who will be here this week to spend a little time with us before they head back to Memphis.
Tony Stinnett, assistant director of athletic communications: I am thankful for our student-athletes, coaches, support staff, co-workers, interns and athletic administration. They sacrifice a lot throughout the year!
Kaleb King, senior outfielder on the MT baseball team: I'm thankful for an opportunity to come to MTSU. My best friends are here – I grew up in St. Louis, and then I come here and over four years I spent every minute of every day with the guys on the team. This place has just given me a lot of opportunities … just coming here and making the best friends I've ever had and having fun along the way.
Rick Insell, head women's basketball coach: I am thankful for friends and family. Those are the most important things, especially during the holiday season.
Diane Turnham, associate athletic director of SWA: I'm thankful for my family who loves and supports me; my position at MTSU, where we help young men and women become successful adults; thankful we live in a country where we enjoy freedom to make decisions, vote and worship God; and I'm thankful for my health. We are truly a blessed nation.
Danielle Mayeaux, assistant athletic director of marketing and ticket sales: I'm most thankful for my supportive, loving family and guy friend, good health, being the "cool" aunt, Brussel sprouts and running shoes.
Mark Owens, assistant athletic director of communications: My family is tremendous and I am so appreciative each and every day. I am not able to see them and be with them as much as I would like, but I want them to know they are always with me no matter where the job may take me. Having the opportunity to work with great people at a great university is dear to me, as well. I hope everyone enjoys my favorite holiday of the year (eating and football) and gets to spend quality time with the ones they love. Go Blue Raiders!
Kermit Davis, head basketball coach: My mother just turned 80 and my dad is 80, and they are both recovering from cancer and are healthy. The health of my family is the biggest thing I'm thankful for. From a basketball standpoint, knock on wood, I'm really thankful for the health of our team right now. We would like to wish everybody a great Thanksgiving.
Shaquille Huff, senior defensive lineman on the MT football team: I'm thankful for the time I've had on this team and I'm thankful to have made it this far. I'm about to graduate in December, so I'm thankful for that. I'm thankful for my family – they're going through a tough time right now, but they're coming up here to support me.
Daniel Stephens, senior offensive lineman on the MT football team: I'm just thankful for this team and my family. The team has been my family away from home and has done a great job of showing me love all four years. Then, my family back home, without them nothing is possible. They are so supportive of me and what I've done in my four years here.
Rick Stockstill, head football coach: This is a special time of the year, and I'm thankful for my family, health, my friends and I'm very thankful and appreciative of our players, our team, our coaches, everything that they've sacrificed this year. I'm just very thankful for this football team and how hard they work and how much they care about this university, about this football team, this program.
Whit Turnbow, senior associate AD of strategic initiatives and resource enhancement: I'm thankful for something that doesn't cost a thing, and something of which there is more than enough for everyone, regardless of circumstance… grace.
