Three Blue Raiders to compete this weekend
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee's men's tennis will conclude the fall season this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama, at the CCB Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Samford.
Nicolas Buitrago Machado, Jacob Pugh and Michael Apple are set to compete for the Blue Raiders. UAB, Eastern Kentucky, Troy, Lipscomb, South Alabama, Tulane and Louisville will join MT and host school Samford in singles and doubles action this weekend.
Through three events in his first fall at MT, Buitrago has notched a singles mark of 4-4, including victories over opponents from Chattanooga, Belmont and Lipscomb, as well as a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Tennessee Tech's Carlos Tejas in the opening round of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional. Buitrago and Apple teamed up to go 1-2 in doubles at the Coach Dale Short Shootout to open the fall season.
Pugh has competed in the Dale Short Shootout as well as last weekend's Commodore Scramble, and he holds a record of 5-3. George Wong and Thais Minet of Lipscomb along with Belmont's Gibson Parker fell to the MT sophomore in straight sets at the Commodore Scramble hosted by Vanderbilt. Pugh is 2-4 this fall in doubles action, competing three times with Luis Morillo Diaz and three times with Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore.
Posting a record of 3-3 in fall singles action coming into the final fall tournament is Apple. The Memphis, Tennessee, native has seen his match go to a third set on three occasions this fall, coming out on top against Austin Peay's James Mitchell and Belmont's Caio Niel. His only doubles matches of the fall have come with Buitrago.
Singles play will follow doubles each day of the tournament, and a full recap of the weekend's action will be posted on GoBlueRaiders.com after play has been completed.
