MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee puts its longest winning streak since the 2013-14 season on the line Saturday in a highly anticipated road contest at VCU.
The Blue Raiders moved to 10-1 after downing Belmont 79-66, and have run their winning streak to eight consecutive games, the eighth longest streak in the nation.
Middle Tennessee (10-1) and VCU (7-3) have faced off just five times before, three of which have come under Head Coach Kermit Davis. He owns a 1-2 record against the Rams while Middle Tennessee leads the all-time series 3-2.
The Rams defeated Middle Tennessee 62-56 in Murfreesboro a season ago in a contest that was tied with as little as 3:27 seconds left before VCU pulled away late.
Seven Blue Raiders that saw action in that contest are back this season, including junior guard Giddy Potts (15.6 ppg) and senior forward Reggie Upshaw (14.6 ppg).
Senior forward JaCorey Williams leads MT offensively at 18.9 points per game and has tallied back-to-back double-doubles against Vanderbilt and at Belmont.
The Rams are led offensively by Dickson, Tenn., native JeQuan Lewis, who is averaging 14.9 points per game and also leads VCU in a3-point field goal percentage (.476), free throw percentage (.829) and assists per game (4.4).
Last Saturday VCU came back from down 11 points to defeat fellow Conference USA member Old Dominion in Norfolk, snapping a two-game skid.
Saturday's contest in Richmond is set to tip off at 6:00 p.m. CT and will be aired on American Sports Network.
