Notched double-doubles in both outings last week
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Blue Raider forward JaCorey Williams has been named the Conference USA Player of the Week for the second time this season after recording a pair of double-doubles in non-conference action last week.
The 6-foot-8 senior scored 18 points and pulled down 11 boards in a win at Belmont before notching 17 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in the narrow loss at VCU on Saturday.
He averaged 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game on the week while adding a team-high seven assists, one block and two steals. His five assists at Belmont were also another career best.
Williams recorded his second double-double of the year against Vanderbilt, giving him four on the season and three in a row. He is now the first Blue Raider in over 10 seasons to have three consecutive double-double outings.
"About three weeks ago we really had a talk about needing to get back and rebound the ball to really get our team better," head coach Kermit Davis said. "We've found out with JaCorey if we really emphasize something with him he'll make it a point to improve on it and it has made his play a lot better.
"Over the last five games he has averaged over nine rebounds per game which is a really good stat for him."
The Birmingham, Ala., native was awarded his first C-USA Player of the Week award on Nov. 28 following a 4-0 week in which Middle Tennessee swept the Challenge in Music City where Williams was named Tournament MVP.
Williams and the Blue Raiders return to action Wednesday with a home contest against Georgia State at 6:30 p.m.
