MURFRESBORO, Tenn. – With a conference-best 7-1 record and a win against SEC foe Ole Miss in its back pocket, Middle Tennessee is back on the road Saturday to face former Sun Belt rival South Alabama.
The Blue Raiders are winners of four straight, won a program-record seven games in November and are out to their best start since going 8-1 in the first nine games of the 2011-12 season.
South Alabama enters the contest at 6-1 and is coming off of a 78-55 win against Conference USA member Southern Miss in Hattiesburg.
The Raiders and Jaguars have faced off 32 times previously with Middle holding a 20-12 advantage in the series. MT has won eight straight against the Jaguars dating back to 2011 and own wins in 13 of the last 15 meetings.
Davis is 17-8 all-time against the Jags while MT is 8-6 all-time in Mobile.
Senior forward JaCorey Williams continues to lead Middle in scoring at 20.1 points per game while Giddy Potts (14.4) and Reggie Upshaw (14.1) both join Williams in the Top 15 in C-USA.
South Alabama boast four scorers averaging double-digits with Ken Williams (14.4) leading the bunch. Second leading scorer Georgi Boyanov (12.1) has come off the bench in all seven contests while leading rebounder Don MuepoKelly adds 10.1 points per game to go along with his 7.1 boards.
