MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Coming off of a narrow road loss at VCU, the Blue Raiders will look to start a new winning streak Wednesday as they host Georgia State in the Murphy Center.
Middle Tennessee (10-2) and Georgia State (6-4) have met 11 times previously with the Raiders holding an 8-3 advantage, but have met just once since 1983 in a 64-62 Panther win last season in Atlanta.
Senior forward Reggie Upshaw – who is averaging 14.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and a team-high 3.7 assists per game – was one of two Blue Raiders to tally 18 points in last year's contest and also notched 10 rebounds to complete the double-double.
Fellow senior JaCorey Williams leads the Blue Raiders in scoring (18.8) and rebounding (7.3) and is on a tear with three consecutive double-doubles. He is the first MT player to do so since Aylton Tesch in Jan. 1996.
Giddy Potts is averaging 20.2 points per game in his last five outings and hit 5-of-7 attempts from beyond the arc in the contest at VCU last Saturday.
Georgia State is led by Jeremy Hollowell's 13.6 points per game, but he stands as the only Panther scoring at a double-digit rate.
Panther senior Willie Clayton leads the Sun Belt in field goal percentage (.667) and is third in the league in rebounding (8.4) while adding eight points per game.
The Panthers enter Wednesday's contest with just a pair of days between games after dropping a 58-46 decision at Old Dominion on Sunday.
Wednesday's tip is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Murphy Center.
