Indoor Track Opens Season at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In their first meet of the 2016-17 indoor track & field season, Middle Tennessee tallied 22 top-five finishes, while also capturing first in five events.
The Blue Raider men's squad claimed two of the first-place finishes in the mile and the 3,000 meter run.
Geoffry Cheruiyot was the lone Blue Raider in the men's mile and came out on top finishing in 4:14.29, a full six seconds faster than the next finisher.
Three Blue Raiders landed in the top five of the men's 3,000 meter with Kigen Chemadi taking the top spot (8:09.43). Jacob Choge and Hillary Rono finished fourth (8:23.76) and fifth (8:30.01) in the event.
On the women's side, Loveth Odia and Abike Egbeniyi each finished first in an event while helping the 4x400-meter relay team to a win.
Odia had a commanding performance in the women's 400 meter, finishing in 55.18, more than a second faster than the runner-up.
In the women's 800 meter run, a trio of Blue Raiders finished one, two, three. Egbeniyi took the top spot in 2:07.95 while Agnes Abu (2:09.38) and Shaina Johnson (2:12.61) rounded out the top three.
The Blue Raider women also took first in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Taylor Day, Egbeniyi, Susan Aneno and Odia finished in 3:44.24.
Middle Tennessee is slated to compete again Jan. 8 at the Tennessee State Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
