Simpson nominated for Good Works Team

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Blue Raider junior Edward Simpson has been nominated for the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Team, with the nominees officially released by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Simpson is one of 111 nominees from over 350 Division I programs, of which five will be selected to the D-I men's basketball Good Works Team.
A total of 20 players are recognized from all divisions of men's and women's basketball based on excellence in community service and leadership among their peers.
Simpson boasts a 3.7 GPA as a Mechatronics Engineering major and member of Middle Tennessee's Honors College, while also belonging to the National Honor Society and the Chi Alpha Sigma National Collegiate Student-Athlete Honor Society.
During his time in Murfreesboro, he has given time to philanthropic organizations and events such as the Special Olympics of Rutherford County, Camp Ability with Special Kids and National Reading Day.
Simpson also gives back in his hometown of Ocean Springs, Miss., where he volunteers at youth basketball camps and gives leadership speeches to students at his alma mater, St. Martin High School.
The MT guard is a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Ocean Springs where he has helped the production team doing sound system and camera work for the church and has participated in both the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Alzheimer's Walk in Ocean Springs.
Simpson has also been involved in a group in that provides Christmas presents for underprivileged children in Ocean Springs.
"This is an outstanding nomination for Ed," Head Coach Kermit Davis said. "Obviously he really epitomizes what it means to be a student-athlete.
"He is an unbelievable student and has really embraced our community service activities at a high level over the last two and a half years. He would certainly be worthy of being named to the Good Works Team."
Simpson has started all nine contests for the Blue Raiders in 2016-17, logging 6.1 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game while boasting a team-high 4.0 assist-to-turnover ratio and hitting 52 percent (13-of-25) of his 3-point attempts on the season.
