MT looking for first series win since 2011
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Fresh off a 62-59 win against Tulane, Middle Tennessee seeks to keep the momentum rolling on the road when the Blue Raiders visit No. 15 Kentucky Friday night.
Action from Memorial Coliseum is set for a 6 p.m. tip with Dick Palmer on the 89.5 WMOT call. Fans can also catch the action on the SEC Network+ via the WatchESPN app.
The Wildcats (6-2) lead the all-time series with 13-4 record, including a 6-2 ledger over the last eight seasons. The Blue Raiders (2-3) are in search of their first victory against the Wildcats since 2011 and first win in Lexington under head coach Rick Insell.
Abbey Sissom and Alex Johnson paved the way in last weekend's victory against the Green Wave. Sissom tallied a career-high 21 points, while Johnson snagged her first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Sissom's 5-for-7 performance from behind the arc also moved her to No. 8 in the country in three-point field goal percentage (55 percent).
Kentucky split a pair of games last week, claiming an 82-68 decision against No. 17 Oklahoma in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge before dropping a 69-67 overtime road contest at No. 7 Louisville.
Makayla Epps, who was named the SEC Player of the Week Tuesday, averages 19.4 points and dishes out 5.25 assists per game. Evelyn Akhator compliments Epps, averaging a double-double with 15 points and 10.1 rebounds per outing. Epps compiled 52 points, 19 rebounds and 11 assists against the Sooners and Cardinals last week.
Following Friday's matchup, Middle Tennessee returns to the Murphy Center for this season's "We Back Pat" game against Arizona State Tuesday. Tipoff between the Blue Raiders and Sun Devils is set for 6:30 p.m.
