Record falls at Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - On the first day of the Music City Challenge, the Blue Raiders broke a two-year old Middle Tennessee record in the women's distance medley relay at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility Friday night.
In the 4,000 meter distance medley relay, the team of Josphine Kiptebeny, Susan Aneno, Rhema Cheruiyot and Agnes Abu raced to first in 11:37.10, breaking the time of 12:00.89 set by Autumn Gipson, Rachel Islam, Barbara Vilson and Jackline Kirpono in 2014.
In the women's high jump, Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad tied her career-best height and placed third after clearing 1.67 meters (5-5.75). Vilson, a member of the 2014 distance medley relay squad, jumped 1.67 meters in the high jump, while Pershsawa Williams cleared 1.62 meters (5-3.75).
Williams also competed in the triple jump, placing 10th with her bound of 12.51 meters (41-0.5), whileIndia Hammond notched a season-best 12.79 meter (41-11.5) distance.
In the men's triple jump, Phillip Smith earned a personal-best distance in the event, bounding 15.54 meters (51-0) for third. Vincent Okot added another top-five finish for the Blue Raiders, jumping 15.44 meters (50-8) for fifth.
Smith also earned another personal-best in the high jump as the Clarksville, Tennessee native cleared 2.10 meters (6-10.75).
Middle Tennessee continues competition at the Music City Challenge tomorrow in Nashville, Tennessee, while Eliud Rutto is slated to compete in the 800 meter at the ISU Classic.
