MT travels to Birmingham for the weekend
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off of their first road win of the year at Louisville, the Middle Tennessee women's tennis team looks to keep their momentum going in Birmingham, where they'll face Samford and UAB.
Samford enters play on Saturday with a record of 2-2, defeating Jackson State and Kennesaw State both by a score of 7-0. Their first loss of the season came against an Auburn team that was ranked No. 40 at the time, 7-0. The Bulldogs are coming off of a loss to Georgia State, 6-1.
The Blue Raiders will meet with the Blazers on Sunday at noon. It'll be the first Conference USA matchup for both teams, and head coach Charlie Ramsay's first match versus a C-USA foe.
UAB puts a 2-3 record on the line when they square off with MT on Sunday. The Blazers boast wins over Kennesaw State, 7-0, and Chattanooga, 4-1. They've been shut out in every losing attempt, with Georgia Tech, Auburn and Georgia State handing them losses.
Senior Brittany Huxley leads MT in singles play with a record of 6-1 on the season, all at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Newcomer Luisa Zirilli is the only other Blue Raider to have a winning record in singles play, with a record 4-3 at No. 3.
In doubles play, Costanza Magazzini and Alory Pereira are undefeated, 3-0, at the No. 3 spot. Huxley and Giulia Squadrin have a 4-3 record in doubles so far on the year.
MT as a team is 10-8 in doubles play and 20-24 in singles action.
