Round Two Results
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – With two rounds in the books at the All There August Challenge, Middle Tennessee leads the pack by a margin of four strokes.
The Blue Raiders shot eight-over par (292) in round one to place themselves atop the pack through 18 holes with a narrow two-stroke lead over Little Rock.
MT followed that up with a second round two-over (286), one of the best rounds of the tournament so far. The Blue Raiders shot a two-round total of 578 on Sunday.
"We played pretty good for the most part, especially for our first tournament back from winter break," head coach Chris Adams said.
The closest challenger through the first two rounds is Sam Houston State, who is at 14-over par after rounds of 13-over 297 and one-over 285 for a total of 582. UTSA sits four strokes behind the Bearkats at 18-over par (301-285=586).
Avery George was one of two Raiders to complete round one at three-over par (74) before she began climbing the leaderboard with a two-under 69 in round two. The senior currently sits in third in the field of 78 and is five strokes off the lead.
Junior Samantha Gotcher is currently three strokes behind George in a tie for seventh place. Gotcher shot a three-over 74 in round one followed by a one-over 72 in round two.
Jenna Burris got off to somewhat of a slow start, carding four bogeys in her first five holes and finishing with a six-over 77 in her first 18 holes.
The redshirt freshman bounced back in a big way with a one-under 70 in round two to finish the day tied for 11th place, one stroke behind Gotcher.
Freshman Hanley Long has played two solid rounds to start the competition, carding rounds of two-over 73 and four-over 75 to land in a tie for 15th with 18 holes left to play.
Murfreesboro native Maddie Denton shot an even par 71 in the first round of the tournament but struggled through round two and fell off the pace with a round of 18-over par (89).
"We had a few double bogeys that we'll need to fix tomorrow, but everyone contributed and now we just need to find a way to finish it off tomorrow," Adams added.
After spending day one alongside Youngstown State and UTRGV, the Blue Raiders will be paired with Sam Houston State and Conference USA rival UTSA for the final round.
The final 18 holes will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
