The Grove to host elite event
MURFREESBORO – The inaugural Franklin American Mortgage Moore/Turnbow Cup will be held March 7, 2016 at The Grove Club in College Grove, TN to help raise funds for the Blue Raider men's golf program. The event is named in honor of former head coaches Johnny Moore and Whit Turnbow for the impact they made in collegiate golf at Middle Tennessee.
The prestigious Grove Club is also the site of the 2017 NCAA Regionals.
"I am extremely excited for the Franklin American Mortgage MT Cup," said current head coach Brennan Webb. "The response from the Middle Tennessee community has been outstanding and I think it is going to be a special day that we can build on in the future. The money raised from the event is going to be instrumental in the success of the program, allowing us to travel and compete in the best tournaments in the country. I am proud that we are able to honor Coach Moore and Coach Turnbow as well, thanking them for all they have done to make Middle Tennessee golf one of the best programs in the country."
Moore, who played golf and football at Middle Tennessee, is a member of the Blue Raider Hall of Fame. The Nashville native led the MT golf program for 18 years, guiding them to their first-ever NCAA Tournament, five conference championships and nine tournament wins.
Turnbow, currently the senior associate athletic director at MT, has been a player, assistant coach and head coach at his alma mater. As head coach, Turnbow led the Blue Raiders to six NCAA regionals, one NCAA National Championship appearance and a conference title.
Former Blue Raider golfers and current Web.com Tour members Kent Bulle, Rick Cochran, Jason Millard, and Chas Narramore will be on hand for a warm up clinic while also playing one hole with each group during tournament play.
"Really looking forward to this unique event," said Narramore. "It's great to give back to the program and honor two great coaches in Johnny Moore and Whit Turnbow. Both guys have made the golf program what it is today and this event will only help make it even better. It should be a great day."
The tournament format will be an 18-hole shamble where every player tees off and selects the best ball. Each player will then play their own ball out from that point. Participants can enter as a team of four or as an individual. The winning team will receive the Moore/Turnbow Cup at the conclusion of play.
"We are proud to partner with Franklin American Mortgage and The Grove Club because both are leaders in their industry and tremendous friends of Blue Raider athletics," said Turnbow. "First class customer service is the hallmark of both organizations and we look forward to providing a special day for the supporters of the Middle Tennessee men's golf program. With the addition of the Web.com Tour members, March 7th will be a unique opportunity for the community to see how they impact the lives of our student athletes through their giving."
Registration will begin at The Grove Club pavilion at 11 AM with lunch and a warm up clinic from 11 AM to Noon. The 18-hole Shamble will get underway at 12:15 PM with a trophy presentation and hor d'oeuvres at 5 PM.
