MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee senior guard Brea Edwards has been named C-USA Player of the Week after leading the Blue Raiders to a home sweep of Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss last week.
It marks Edwards' fourth C-USA Player of the Week honor this season. She was also named College Sports Madness High-Major Player of the Week Monday.
Edwards averaged a double-double with 26.5 points and 10 rebounds as Middle Tennessee (17-7, 11-2) stretched its win streak to eight games and remained within one game of the lead in the C-USA race. The win streak is currently the 15th longest in the country.
"I am truly honored and humbled," Edwards said. "We really have so many great players in this conference so it means something to be mentioned among them. I look at this as a team award because none of it would be possible without the team."
Edwards' 79 3-pointers are currently tied for sixth on the Middle Tennessee single-season list, and her .449 3-point field goal percentage is sixth on the single-season list. Edwards is also shooting 87 percent from the free-throw line, which is second on the single-season list.
The senior sharpshooter from Rockford, Ill., started her week in strong fashion with a double double in a showdown against Louisiana Tech that pitted two of the top four teams in the standings. Edwards poured in a career-high 31 points and added 11 rebounds. She poured in six 3-pointers to tie her season high.
Edwards followed that performance with another stellar performance in a win against Southern Miss. She scored a game-high 22 points, pulled nine rebounds and added four more 3-pointers to run her total to 10 for the week.
Edwards had a solid all-around game against Southern Miss as she added a career-high five assists and three steals.
