Raiders have won Mobile event twice
MOBILE – Coming out of a winter that made practicing difficult, the Middle Tennessee men's golf team will open the 2016 spring campaign on Monday at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. The ninth annual event will take place on the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course which will play as a par 72, 7,212 yard trek.
The Blue Raiders won this event in 2011 and 2012.
This year's field of 15 teams will include No. 1 ranked Auburn and No. 2 ranked Wake Forest, along with Chattanooga, Eastern Michigan, Georgia State, Illinois State, Kansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi, Mississippi State, South Alabama, Southern Miss, and Texas State.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start with the final 18 holes being played Tuesday.
After some intense qualifying the past few weeks, the Middle Tennessee lineup will consist of junior Drake Duncan, freshmen Marcus Byrd, James Beckner and Graham Gosselin, along with junior Connor Slane.
Sophomore Hoyeong Kim will compete in the individual tournament which will take place at the Magnolia Groves Falls Golf Course (par 71, 7,158 yards).
Temperatures are expected to be in the high 60s to low 70s both days. To keep track of the Blue Raiders log onto Golfstat.com for live scoring.
