Raiders tied for 10th after two rounds

DAY ONE RESULTS
MOBILE, AL – Middle Tennessee men's golf opened its spring season on Monday at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate and shot rounds of 296-294 to stand in a tie for 10th. The tournament is being held at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course (par 72, 7,212 yards).
No. 4 ranked Auburn is the overall leader at 16-under par with Chattanooga in second at 8-under and Georgia State in third at 2-under par. No. 2 Wake Forest and Kansas State round out the top five.
Freshman Marcus Byrd shined for the Blue Raiders on day one with a 2-under total 144 after rounds of 70-72. Dating back to the fall season, Byrd has shot under par in five of his last eight rounds. Byrd stands tied for sixth overall.
"I am really happy with Marcus' play today," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "I continue to be excited for what the future has in store for him. He seems to play his best when the lights come on. He is certainly not afraid to competing and I know he is excited for another opportunity on Tuesday."
Junior Connor Slane and freshmen James Beckner and Graham Gosselin are all tied for 52nd. Slane carded a pair of 75s on the day and had six birdies and an eagle.
Beckner opened with a 76 before coming back with a 74 in round two, while Gosselin notched a 77 and a 73. Gosselin added five birdies on the day while Beckner added four.
Junior Drake Duncan had a 75 in round one with three birdies before struggling with a 79 for the final 18 of the day.
Hoyeong Kim is playing as a individual and had rounds of 85-78.
The Blue Raiders will play the final round Tuesday beginning at 8:30 AM.
