MT will play No. 23 Columbia and TSU on Saturday
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After moving up 21 spots in the latest ITA rankings to No. 50, Middle Tennessee will put their seven match win streak on the line against No. 23 Columbia and TSU in a doubleheader at Adams Tennis Complex on Saturday at 1 p.m.
MT is led in singles play by Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore, who has posted a 10-1 record overall, with six of those wins coming at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Ayed Zatar Cordero has a record of 8-2 in singles, with a 6-0 mark at No. 3. The pair lead in doubles action for the Blue Raiders with a 7-2 mark.
"Our practices have gotten better each day this week and we are all looking forward to this test," head coach Jimmy Borendame said. "Columbia is a very strong and well coached team and I think we will continue our strong play at the ATC."
Columbia enters play with a 6-3 record, with wins over Stanford, North Florida, Navy, New Mexico and two shutout victories over Minnesota.
The Lions are led in singles by Shawn Hadavi, who is ranked No. 54 by the ITA in singles. Hadavi and Richard Pham of the Lions are the No. 10 ranked doubles team in the nation. Columbia also has the No. 33 ranked doubles combo of Michal Rolski and Mike Vermeer.
Tennessee State is 2-3 in 2016, with both wins coming against Arkansas Pine Bluff with a score of 7-0. The Tigers lost to Vanderbilt 7-0 on the road a couple weeks ago and are on a three match losing streak.
"We are just looking to improve every day and not worry about results," Borendame added.
There is free admission to every match and there will be free food from Jason's Deli at the match on Saturday while supplies last.
