Raiders to host Middle Tennessee Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the first and only time during the 2015-16 indoor track & field season, Middle Tennessee will host a track meet in the Murphy Center. The Blue Raiders welcome five other schools to the historic Murphy Center on Saturday Feb. 6 for the Middle Tennessee Invitational.

Last Time Out
At the Vanderbilt Invitational, Middle Tennessee captured nine top-five finishes, including a second-place finish in the women's 800 meter by Agnes Abu.
Abu finished the race in 2:08.91, capturing a personal-best time along with the top ranking in Conference USA. Shaina Johnson also competed in the 800, finishing 18th in 2:15.97.
In the women's 3,000 meter, three Blue Raiders finished in the top 10 and were led by Josphine Kiptebeny's third-place performance. Kiptebeny finished in 9:42.97 and ranks second in C-USA in the 3K.
For the men's squad, Jacob Patten secured the best finish for MT at Vanderbilt. Patten cleared 2.08 (6-9.75) meters in the high jump for third, while teammate Phillip Smith finished fifth after his 2.04 meter (6-8.25) jump.
Where was Rutto?
Eliud Rutto, a 2014 NCAA Outdoor All-American, competed separately than the Blue Raider teams, competing at the Camel City Invitational in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Rutto competed in the 800 meter elite racing, finishing second in 1:49.51 and after track conversion he held a time of 1:47.97.
The Eldoret, Kenya native's time ranks as the best in Conference USA and 12th in the NCAA.
Missing the Mark
For the first time in the 2015-16 season, Middle Tennessee was not represented when the Conference USA weekly honors were released.
The Blue Raiders have earned five C-USA weekly accolades, which includes Jacob Patten earning C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Week. Jan. 12 and Jan. 26.
