Vesser delivers double in setback
Box Score
NASHVILLE – Middle Tennessee dropped a 6-1 decision to Lipscomb as the teams split their two regular season games Tuesday in Nashville.
The Blue Raiders (4-4) began a string of four straight road games with a tough hitting night as they managed five hits, one for extra bases, and no player had a multi-hit game.
Chaz Vesser's fifth-inning double provided the only extra-base hit. Riley Delgado, Brad Jarreau, Kevin Dupree and Kaleb King had base hits. That was the extent of the Middle Tennessee offense against Lipscomb (6-2) pitchers Adam Stewart and John Pryor.
Jake Wyrick (0-1) was settled with the loss despite allowing one hit over four innings. Control issues plagued the sophomore lefty, who walked four and hit another. Two of the walks scored in the third.
Carson Lester, Frank Reeves, AJ Spencer and Garrett Ring also saw action on the mound for the Blue Raiders.
Lipscomb took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Middle Tennessee's best opportunity came in the fourth inning when it loaded the bases with two outs but could not deliver a clutch hit. The Blue Raiders scored their only run an inning later when King came through with a one-out single and scored following a throwing error on Vesser's double to right field.
Middle Tennessee will start a three-game series against South Alabama in Mobile, Ala., Friday.
