KENNESAW, Ga. – Despite a strong performance on the mound from Saturday starter Tyler Troutt, Middle Tennessee's four-game winning streak came to a halt Saturday with a 7-0 loss at Kennesaw State.
Middle Tennessee (9-6) collected just five hits on the day while Kennesaw State (7-7) took advantage of 11 hits and four walks to stay active on the basepaths and push runners across the plate.
Troutt threw six and one-third innings for the Blue Raiders allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out four KSU batters and walking just one.
"Tyler (Troutt) threw very well today and got a really tough luck loss," head coach Jim McGuire said. "We were only down 2-0 when he left the game but couldn't get any runs across to give him the support he needed."
Brad Jarreau went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double while Riley Delgado got a hit in his last plate appearance of the game to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.
"Brad (Jarreau) had a nice day at the plate for us today and of course Riley Delgado continued his hot streak at the plate with another hit today," McGuire added.
Troutt started the day very strong, retiring the top of the Owls' order in succession with a couple of strikeouts in the first.
Kennesaw State got their first run on the board in the second inning with a double to left center, scoring a runner from second to take the early lead.
It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Owls were able to push another run across against Troutt, who hadn't gotten much help from his offense with only four hits scattered across six innings.
Troutt's day came to an end after a walk and a ground out to open up the seventh inning, but the bullpen failed to keep the Raiders within striking distance.
The Owls tacked on three more runs in the seventh inning and two in the eighth to push the lead to 7-0 and leaving Sunday as the deciding game of the series.
The Blue Raiders and Owls will conclude the series at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday as Reid Clements takes the mound for Middle Tennessee.
