Okot 11th in triple jump

BIRIMNGHAM, Ala. – Eliud Rutto nearly earned the Blue Raider track & field team's first NCAA Champions in the 800 meters since 2003, but fell just short, placing second in Birmingham at the Birmingham CrossPlex Saturday night.

Rutto, finished the 800 meter in 1:46.81, while Akron's Clayton Murphy won the 800 in 1:46.68. The Eldoret, Kenya native earns first-team All-American honors.

"It was a great race and he (Eliud Rutto) put forth a great effort in it," said head coach Dean Hayes. "He did a great job and I am proud of him."

Vincent Okot, competing the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career, finished 11th in the triple jump, bounding 15.63 meters (51-3.5).

Clive Pullen of Arkansas won the triple jump, jumping 16.64 meters (54-7.25).

Middle Tennessee continues competition with their outdoor schedule and are slated to compete again March 18-19 at the Alabama Relays.
