SAN DIEGO – Middle Tennessee is in fifth place following 36 holes of the Lamkin Grips SD Classic. The Blue Raiders had rounds of 287-297=584 on the par 72, 7,033-yard San Diego Country Club course Monday.
No. 12 Texas and No. 6 Arizona State are tied for the overall lead at 2-under par 574. New Mexico is third followed by No. 21 San Diego State and the Blue Raiders.
"We played very well today," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "This course demands a lot of patience and discipline and, for the most part, we answered the challenge. I think we have a great game plan so if we have the same patience and discipline in the final round then we can improve our position."
Sophomore Hoyeong Kim is second with a 3-under total of 141. Kim turned in a career-best round of 69 in the morning then responded with an even par 72 in round two. Kim had nine birdies on the day.
"I am very proud of Hoyeong and the way he played today," added Webb. "He did an incredible job of focusing on each shot and the results were indicative."
Freshman James Beckner is tied for fifth overall with a 1-under total of 143. Beckner opened with a career-best round of 69 that included seven birdies before closing with a 74 in the afternoon.
Freshman Marcus Byrd and junior Drake Duncan are both tied for 32nd with a 150 total. Byrd had identical 75s in each round while Duncan registered a 74 in round one and a 76 in round two.
Connor Slane is tied for 81st with a 160.
