Raiders set for outdoor season

MT to compete in Alabama Relays
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After a successful indoor season that resulted in two competing in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Middle Tennessee track & field teams are slated to start the outdoor season at the Alabama Relays March 18-19 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Javelin Returns
The return of the outdoor season also marks the return of the javelin, and Middle Tennessee's national runner up John Ampomah to the event. Ampomah, who competes in the shot put during the indoor season, will look to return to his 2015 form, where he won the Penn Relays, finished second in the NCAA and never placed below second in the javelin.
Rutto and Okot at the NCAA Indoor Championships
Eliud Rutto and Vincent Okot competed in the NCAA Indoor Championships last week to finalize the indoor season. Rutto finished 2nd in the 800 meter, setting the Middle Tennessee indoor record in 1:46.81.
Okot competed in the triple jump for the first time in his career at Middle Tennessee, finishing 11th.
Rutto was named first-team All-American, while Okot received second-team All-American honors.
2015 Records
In 2015, three records were broken or set during the outdoor season. Ampomah set the MT javelin record with a throw of 267-7 feet, while Atsu Nyamadi set the decathlon record by amassing 7,567 points.
On the women's side, Josphine Kipetebeny finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:19.63.
