Three matches in Florida up next for Blue Raiders
TAMPA, Fla. – After going on the road to California for two games last week, the Middle Tennessee women's tennis team will look to get back in the win column as they travel to Tampa, Florida, for three matches.
The 7-6 Blue Raiders dropped to 3-3 on the road on the 2016 campaign after a 4-3 loss to UC Irvine. In the second match of the week, MT tied San Diego 2-2 after rain prevented the match from continuing.
"We are looking forward to going down to South Florida for three tough matches," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said. "We got better over spring break, played two very competitive, fun matches that we can really build on."
A match with Stetson is first on the docket for the Blue Raiders in their three match road swing in Florida. The Hatters are 4-7 on the season so far and boast wins over Florida A&M, South Carolina State, Bethune-Cookman and Southern Illinois. Stetson has only been shut out one time this season, which was against Florida International on Feb. 6. MT and Stetson will play on Friday at 11 a.m.
The No. 41 ranked team in the country awaits the Blue Raiders on Saturday. Columbia will look to improve on their 9-4 record when they come to Tampa. Six of their wins have come against ranked opponents. The Lions have posted shutouts over Memphis, Penn State and Maryland.
USF will host MT's matches against Stetson and Columbia, as well as a match between the Blue Raiders and Bulls on Sunday at 11 a.m. USF most recently took down Iowa on Wednesday, 4-0, to push their win streak to six matches. They're 2-4 against ranked opponents on the year, with wins over No. 68 North Texas, 4-3, and No. 73 Troy, 4-0.
"We are continuing to get better and have fun on the court and enjoy the heat of the battle," Ramsay said of his Blue Raiders. "If we can continue to improve on that, we will keep moving forward."
After this three match road swing, MT will return home on March 23 to face Murray State at 2 p.m. at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center on campus.
