MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the first time in the 2016 season, Middle Tennessee will host a tennis match in the friendly confines of the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center on campus.
MT (12-3) will host College of Charleston on Saturday at 2 p.m. after claiming two road wins in Florida over spring break. The Blue Raiders took down Miami (FL) and FAU in a brief two-match road swing.
"College of Charleston is a very tough team, and are well coached by a good friend of mine in Jay Bruner," MT head coach Jimmy Borendame said of his next opponent. "We had a 4-3 battle with them last season, and I am anticipating the same type of competitive match."
The Cougars will come into Murfreesboro with a record of 9-4 on the season. The Blue Raiders will be just the second ranked opponent College of Charleston has faced, as they were defeated by No. 72 Clemson by a score of 6-1 in the season opener.
College of Charleston is solid at the top of the lineup, as Juan Estevarena leads the way with a record of 10-3 in singles play, with nine of his wins coming at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. Rodrigo Encinas is riding a four-match win streak in singles play and is 8-4 overall. He's usually in the middle of the lineup.
Estevarena and Encinas have paired up for doubles action and have a 9-3 mark on the season, always at the No. 1 doubles spot.
"We are looking forward to playing at home on campus for the first time this season," Borendame added.
The Blue Raiders will put on a free tennis clinic after the match and will be serving free pizza, while supplies last.
Live stats will be available for the match. Updates will also be provided on Twitter, @MT_MensTennis.
