TUCSON, Ariz. - Middle Tennessee returns to the course Friday when they open up the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson. The 6,227-yard MountainView Golf club will play host to the event, which features 14 teams inside the Golfstat Top 100 and eight teams ranked 55th or better.
"The golf course is awesome and in perfect condition," head coach Chris Adams said. "I think everyone is ready for competition again since it has been a month since we last played."
Middle Tennessee currently ranks 48th in the Golfstat rankings after collecting five top three finishes in six tournaments this season. Teams in the tournament ranked ahead of the Raiders include No. 7 Georgia, No. 16 Iowa State, No. 22 Missouri, No. 43 Purdue and No. 44 Ohio State.
"This is a top heavy ranked field and it's a great way to kick off three tournaments in a row," Adams added. "I like our attitudes and I believe we can play with anyone as long as we stick to our game plans and have some fun."
Rounding out the field is Colorado State, Kansas State, Kennesaw State, Minnesota, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Texas State, UTSA and Wyoming.
Avery George will lead the Middle Tennessee lineup in Tucson, boasting a 72.7 stroke average in her senior season and finishing in the top six in each of her last two tournaments.
Junior Samantha Gotcher and senior Emily Miller join George, each with a 73.5 stroke average so far this season.
Freshmen Jenna Burris and Hanley Long both earned spots in the top five for the MountainView Collegiate, marking the second straight tournament with both in the lineup for Middle Tennessee.
The Blue Raiders tee off with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start Friday and will play 36 holes on day one. Live stats can be found on birdiefire.com.
