Ampomah, Nyamadi capture first for the Blue Raiders

Ampomah nets facility record at Vanderbilt
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Middle Tennessee track & field teams finished the final day at the Yellow Jacket Invitational with one first-place finish and 15 top-10 finishes, while John Ampomah netted another facility record at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational.
Ampomah, the reigning Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week, earned the Vanderbilt facility record in the javelin after his 77.59 meter throw (254-6), while also capturing first. The facility record is the second in as many weeks for the Ghana native, who set the new facility mark at the Sam Bailey Track & Field Stadium in the Alabama Relays.
Ampomah was the only Blue Raider to compete at Vanderbilt Saturday.
At the Yellow Jacket Invitational, Atsu Nyamadi earned the lone individual title for the Blue Raiders in Atlanta, earning first after his throw of 66.05 meters (216.08) in the javelin. Nyamadi also earned a 25th-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.40), 13th in the 110-meter hurdles (14.88) and 4th in the long jump (7.07m).
Vincent Okot and Jacob Patten notched the second highest finish for the Middle Tennessee men on the day, finishing second in their respective events.
Patten, a freshman from Memphis, Tenn., jumped a career-best outdoors, clearing 2.14 meters (7-0.25) in the high jump.
Okot, a 2016 NCAA Indoor Championship participant in the triple jump, bounded 15.24 meters (50-0) in the triple jump. Okot also finished 15th in the long jump (6.59m/21-7.5) and 8th in the javelin (46.50m/152.07).
On the women's side, Elizabeth Dadzie earned the top Blue Raider finish in two events, capturing second in the long jump and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Dadzie jumped 6.14 meters (21-1.75) in the long jump, while in the 100-meter hurdles the Ghana native finished sixth after her 13.86-second performance.
In the triple jump, India Hammond claimed a top-five finish, placing fourth after bounding 12.39 meters (40-7.75). Hammond also earned a fifth place finish in the long jump, leaping 5.96 meters (19-6.75).
Agnes Abue led a group of five Blue Raiders in the 1,500 meter, placing third in 4:29.98.
Susan Aneno, the Conference USA Indoor Freshman of the Year, also earned a top-10 finish, placing sixth in 4:37.69.
Middle Tennessee continues competition Saturday, April 2 at the Joey Haines Invitational.
