First honor of Ghana native's career
IRVING, Texas – Middle Tennessee women's track & field earned their first Conference USA weekly honors with Elizabeth Dadzie earning C-USA Female Field Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
"We put her in a lot of events and she competed in all of them," said head coach Dean Hayes. "We are trying to get her ready for the multi events in Conference USA and hope she can score well enough to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships."
Dadize, a junior from Kumasi, Ghana, competed in the long jump, the javelin and the 100-meter hurdles in Atlanta.
In the long jump, Dadzie leaped a personal-best 6.14 meters (20-2.75), placing second. Dadzie's distance ranks 15th in the NCAA and is the second best distance in Conference USA.
The Ghana native also competed in the javelin, finishing 13th with her throw of 30.34 meters (99-6).
"It was tough and she did well in all of the events," said Hayes. "She really did do a good job and we are looking forward to what she can do for us outdoors."
Middle Tennessee is slated to continue competition Saturday, April 2 at the Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
