MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Two of Middle Tennessee's top performers from head coach Kermit Davis' 21-win squad have been voted to all-conference teams as announced by the Conference USA office Monday.
Junior forward Reggie Upshaw and sophomore guard Giddy Potts have both been named third team All-Conference USA for their performance on the court this season.
The all-conference honors are selected by a combination of Conference USA head coaches and media members covering each of the league's institutions.
"There's a lot of terrific and deserving players in Conference USA," head coach Kermit Davis said. "You can make a case for a lot of really good players who weren't named to any of those teams, so it's a great honor for both of our guys."
Upshaw has stood out as the most well-rounded players in the conference all season.
The Chattanooga, Tenn., native is averaging 13.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, numbers that only two other C-USA players have outdone this season.
Upshaw is also leading the team in rebounds per game, assists (63), steals (44) and minutes per game (30.6) and is second in points per game, field goal percentage (.510) and blocks (22). He is the only Blue Raider to start all 30 games this season and lands in the top seven in Conference USA in eight different statistical categories.
"Reggie [Upshaw] is a very versatile player and is leading our team in several categories," Davis stated. "He played at a very high level Saturday at FIU and has a lot of really good experience in our league."
Potts is earning C-USA honors for the second consecutive year after being named to the 2015 All-Conference USA freshman team.
The Athens, Ala., native leads the team with his 15.0 points per game and is third in rebounding at 5.5 boards per game.
Potts has also been one of the most deadly three-point shooters in the country, leading Division I in three-point field goal percentage for three weeks during conference play and currently sitting second in the country at 49.3 percent from beyond the arc.
"Giddy has shot the ball extremely well in league play and has been a very good rebounder for us," Davis said. "We're really looking forward to getting him back for the conference tournament."
Upshaw, Potts and the rest of the Blue Raiders open up the Conference USA Tournament at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Middle Tennessee will face off against the winner of Wednesday's match-up between No. 7 seed Charlotte and No. 10 seed Rice inside Legacy Arena in Birmingham.
