MT hosts Austin Peay, travels to Belmont this week
MURFREESBORO – After a nine-game road trip saw Middle Tennessee go 5-4, the Raiders will be back home Tuesday to take on in-state rival Austin Peay at 4 p.m.
This game was originally scheduled for March 31, but due to inclement weather it was postponed to Tuesday.
The Lady Govs are just 6-25 on the season and their 2-12 Conference mark has them tied with Tennessee State for 11th in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Kacy Acree leads Austin Peay with a .384 batting average and has started all 31 games for the Lady Govs. Danielle Liermann has five home runs and 29 RBIs to lead Austin Peay in both categories. Acree's team highs in doubles (10) and triples (2) have helped her to a .646 slugging percentage, also best on the team.
In the circle the Lady Govs two top options have been Autumn Hanners and Sidney Hooper who lead the team with 73.0 and 63.1 innings pitched respectively. Hanners has a 3-11 record with a 4.03 ERA this season and Hooper's ERA is 6.19 as she is still looking for her first win at 0-8.
Carlie Jenkins has continued her rise of late as is now second for the Blue Raiders with a .302 batting average. Jenkins is just two weeks removed from winning Conference USA co-player of the week and now has three home runs and 15 RBIs. Jenkins's six doubles are tied for the team lead and have helped her slugging percentage to soar over the last month up to .500. Patience has been a virtue for Jenkins as she has coaxed a team high 13 walks and has been hit seven times to help her to a .422 on base percentage which leads the Raiders.
Dani Munoz has shown great power in her first full season wearing the blue and white as she leads the Raiders with seven home runs, and just moved into first in the RBI category with 26. Precious Birdsong's speed has also been on display as her 22 steals are by far the most for MT.
The Raiders will play back-to-back days this week as they will travel to Rose Park in Nashville to take on Belmont Wednesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Belmont is just 14-25 on the season and were swept in a double header by Murray State Sunday. Hayley Baker has been the most consistent at the plate for the Bruins with a .365 batting average. Jessica Wilson's three homers lead the team and Jordan Spicer leads Belmont with 17 RBIs.
The Bruins' circle has been patrolled most of the year by three pitchers. Shelby Willard leads the team with 70.1 innings pitched, but Ashley Johnson and Lexi Rouse are right on her heels with 69.2 and 63.1 innings pitched respectively. Johnson's 3.11 ERA is the best on the team of those pitchers who have made more than five appearances. Rouse has the team lead in winning percentage as her record in the circle is 5-4 on the year.
